Briq Stool [2019]
The Briq Stool is crafted from recycled briquettes, a material commonly found in Korea’s older urban neighborhoods. With the rapid modernization of Seoul, heating systems have shifted to efficient boilers, making the use of briquettes a rare sight in the city today.
However, remnants of the 1970s and 80s linger in the steep hillside villages that still exist in some corners of Seoul. These neighborhoods, often referred to as "moon villages," continue to rely on briquettes to combat the cold during winter. The Briq Stool embodies the resilience and warmth of these communities, preserving a fragment of history while giving it a new purpose.
