Zero waste, Endless potential, International Zero Waste Fisheries Forum [2024]
The first International Zero Waste Fisheries Forum held in Seoul highlights the immense potential of fisheries products as sustainable materials. Through this event, we aim to demonstrate the value of these resources in addressing global environmental challenges and exploring innovative applications.
The design project draws inspiration from the heart, a critical organ in the circulatory system that ensures the seamless flow of life. The heart not only delivers oxygen, nutrients, and essential substances to the body but also efficiently removes waste, maintaining balance and vitality. This biological process serves as a powerful metaphor for the role fisheries can play in our ecosystems—circulating resources, reducing waste, and sustaining life.
Shellfish exemplify this idea as they act as natural filters, capturing carbon dioxide, purifying vast amounts of water, and stabilizing marine ecosystems. Like the heart, shellfish balance complexity and flow, representing the vital role fisheries play in fostering a sustainable future. By recognizing their ecological significance and untapped material potential, we can reshape the way we approach resource circulation and waste reduction. Through this forum, we aim to inspire new perspectives, innovative solutions, and collaborative action toward a future where fisheries products drive sustainable development and zero-waste innovation.
